This full Moon in Cancer takes place at the beginning of the calendar New Year on 3rd January at 10:02am UTC. She is full at 13 degrees and 1 minute of Cancer.

This full Moon is a bit of a mixed bag. At first glance a full Moon in her domicile in Cancer co-present with an exalted Jupiter opposite Venus looks like a delight. Mars however lurks at the next degree which the Moon will oppose just after she has reached her fullest point.
Sólás agus Sábháilteacht / Comfort and Safety
Cancer, the temple of the Moon, is a place of comfort and ease. It is softness and fluid, moist and warm. Life flourishes here, it is a place of the maternal. Jupiter adds a buoyancy to this place as he passes through. He is retrograde right now but still resources this full Moon with optimistic expansiveness. The Sun, Venus, Mars, and Mercury sit opposite this place in Capricorn, the temple of Saturn. Capricorn is considered a dry cold place; a place where growth is slower and predicated on the strength of its foundations. Anything with weak foundation does not tend to survive this Saturnine temple. This is a place in the natal chart that values security. Being secure in the knowledge that what is being built will not collapse under the strongest of challenges. A place where we can weather any storm.
Faoi Thrí /Threefold
Venus & Mars are both 1 degree from the heart of the Sun and beginning to form their triple conjunction in opposition to this full Moon. Both Venus and Mars are Cazimi or at the heart of the sun and will continue to be so up to 13 January before they separate. This exact threefold conjunction is relatively rare and marks the rebirth of Venus and Mars. An indicated ending through a new beginning of the synodic cycles for both planets. Mercury has recently entered this place and there is a weight or focus on this part of your chart. All planets are hidden and so their significations are under a deep internalised review.
An Gealach go Mall/ The Slow Moon
A full Moon is an opposition between the Sun and Moon. There is a see-saw affect with oppositional tension. Oppositions in Hellenistic Astrology are of the nature of Saturn. There is a balancing required in order to achieve a semblance of stability. This full Moon occurs across the Cardinal axis of earth and water making her a little slower yet initiatory. Capricorn likes the hard, cold, slow build of secure foundational structures in our life while Cancer is concerned with gentle, soft, emotive expression of care and closeness. There is a pull between the two which might not always agree but also one often cannot exist without the other. Can we find a resonant motivation for both desires? It is difficult to ease into softness when we do not feel secure. We are each internally reviewing our need for what gives us security during this full Moon. There may be things that we each identify for ourselves personally that need to be voiced with Mercury having recently entered Capricorn on the calendric New Years Day.

Misneach / Boldness
There is a boldness to this full Moon with an exalted Mars opposite an exalted Jupiter. Energising and buoyant bravery are available to us now. There may be an over optimism that what we express will be taken with openness, so do be prepared for potential push back. Mars oppositions to the Moon are often symbolic of irritation or aggravation. So what new discoveries you have made for yourself might not land as you expect with those you express them too. That is not to say you should keep them to yourself, rather this is an opportunity for intimacy through differences. It may be a moment to share opposing ideas that can be talked through. Both Jupiter and Venus are providing the social glue to aid us in gaining a cohesive understanding of both sides.
Fág an Doras ar Oscailt/ Leave the Door Open
Venus is exactly sextile the north node and trine the south node. Keep your intentions and their expression open enough to allow the Cosmos or an Other to have a word. This is not the time to be super specific but to allow the Cosmos a say into what may occur in the Venusian realms of your life this year. Give much care to these intentions and infuse them with gentleness. Tread softly and hold all outcomes with gentle fingers. Keep them open ended and less specific to allow Jupiter to work his magic with you. Use the Martian courage to imagine big and bold. Thinking about what you would like, why not think about what you would love for the year to come!?
The Cancer part of your chart is being illuminated. A culmination is occurring and a door is opening with an invitation into heart and nurture. This is a Moon that though has irritation also has the capacity for nourishing embrace and a renewed commitment to the care of self and others. This full Moon reminds us that conflict is an opportunity to deepen intimacy and care is something that should be centred as we move forward into 2026.
Athrú ag teacht ar ais / Change returns
The outer planet party is beginning to pick up again. Saturn is honing in on Neptune being now within the 3 degree range of intensification. The strengthening of the Saturn Neptune conjunction is now building until it becomes exact on 20 February. So many words could be attributed to this upcoming conjunction, of structures dissolving, a distortion of material circumstances, reality bending or bringing ideas into material structure. There are a variety of ways this can manifest but it must be said that both planets are finishing up in the last degrees of the Zodiac. Along with synodic resets elsewhere in the Cosmos this is a definitive ending of the transits of both Neptune (14 years) and Saturn (2.5 years) through Pisces as Neptune enters Aries on 27 January with Saturn following on 13 February. From the early degrees of Aries both these planets will enter into exact testimony once more with Pluto and Uranus. New times hinted at last summer are on the return.
