Mag Mell

Mag Mell, the “plane of delight” or the “plane of honey” is that shaft of light across the water that illuminates the road to the other world or Tír na nÓg in Irish folklore. Honey was seen as a divine substance and a symbol of sweetness and plenty. This new moon in Leo speaks to that symbolic honey road of delight that we wish to seek out through understanding what makes each one of us shine.

Aquarius New Moon

This Leo new Moon being opposite Pluto and co-present with Mercury retrograde is opposing the position of the new Moon in Aquarius we had co-present with Pluto conjunct Mercury back in late January this year. That Aquarian Moon was in the mid-winter of the Zodiac a hopeful vision of forward movement. At that moment we were excavating new ideas for our vision of progress and revolution.

We must remember progress and revolution do not mean the same for everybody. We have had 6 months to assess what that progress looks like for us. Leo being the temple of the sun is strongly solar and can represent solar figures (father like figures, leaders). This new moon lunation could bring a re-assessment of solar figures and how they lead. With Pluto in the mix there is deep change afoot potentially bringing forth some filth, dark secrets (What! More!?) into the light of day.

Leo while at once feeling at the height of summer is a sign that sustains the light though we are entering the dark part of the year. We have passed the summer solstice point and are descending into the darker months. The solar temple however is awash with golden sunlight still and seeks to sustain this ray of illumination for as long as it can. Being a sustainer it often likes to stick with tried and tested ways of doing things. It may seek to sustain when it’s no longer useful.

Pluto is not a fan of the usual and the habitual if it no longer serves the purpose of authenticity. Pluto can be explosive and this moment may be one of a surprising volcanic eruption of something new in reaction to what has already come to pass in the first 6 months of the year. Pluto can indicate power struggles, secrets or deep change.

At that new Moon in Aquarius Venus and Mars were in testimony with Venus being exalted in Pisces. Now Venus is square Mars. Venus is co-present with Uranus in Gemini. What was agreed back in January is up for debate once again and Venus is rebellious. Squares can be difficult aspects but are also motivating and Venus is seeking freedom from a critical Mars in Virgo. Perhaps those new ideas from January are feeling restrictive.

We are in New Territory!

The outer planets have all shifted into new signs though like Mercury some are retrograde. Each outer planet holds testimony to this new Moon. We may feel a little bit shell shocked from the rapid change and need to soak up some of the dying light for sustenance. The Moon has entered the rebirth part of her cycle and we can use the coming 2 weeks to reflect on what has happened so far.

Some things to consider:

  • Do my visions and ideas from January need a reworking?
  • Is my heart full of all that I am or do I feel restricted?
  • What nourishes, sustains me and enables me to shine?
  • What is it that makes me feel free to just be me!?
  • Is there something new speaking to me yet I am afraid to try for fear of failure?

This house is in the midst of this mercurial review with a bursting forth of lunar insight.
